General information
The fundamental task of the Institute is to perform basic and application-oriented research in an interdisciplinary setting in the fields of computer science, engineering, information technology, intelligent systems, process control, wide-area networking and multimedia. Contract-based target research, development, training and expert support for domestic and foreign industrial, governmental and other partners are important activities at the Institute. Its staff consists of more than 300 full-time employees, more than 200 with university diploma and more than 70 with scientific degrees.
The main fields of applied research and development:
- artificial intelligence methods in medical diagnostics, process control, mechanical engineering and in the field of financial mathematics,
- expert- and knowledge-based systems in medicine and process supervisory systems,
- design and application of CNN algorithms for high-speed image detection, e.g., for the evaluation of mammograms, echo-cardiograms in the field of medicine, video compression techniques, cryptographic procedures,
- robust control, simultaneous identification and in integrated vehicle control system,
- computer-integrated manufacturing systems,
- distributed information systems and management,
- groupware and decision support systems,
- new technologies for local and wide area networks, www-based and multimedia tools,
- cluster and grid computing
Quality is an important issue at the Institute: we have an EN ISO 9001:2000 certification.Through numerous EU FR5 and FR6 projects, researchers of MTA SZTAKI contribute extensively to European scientific co-operation projects.
Different groups within our Institute work on projects for international and Hungarian companies, as General Electric, Knorr-Bremse AG., T-Com, MOL Rt., RICOH, GE Hungary - the Hungarian Oil Company, NASA- National Aeronautic and Space Administration (USA), ONR - Office of Naval Research (USA), Paks - the Hungarian Nuclear Power Station. Our senior researchers are very active in the management and in the working committees of various international scientific organizations. Many researchers are members of editorial boards of leading international scientific periodicals.
The Institute is a stable, independent partner in R & D and in the field of contract-based applied work, as system planning, system integration, consulting, and turn-key information systems.
